Ingredients

  • 75 g Grated Mozzarella
  • 75 g Mature Cheddar
  • 500 g Minced Beef
  • 100 ml Passata
  • 1 jar Onion and Garlic Pasta Sauce
  • 1 tsp Chopped Garlic
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 jar White Lasagne Sauce
  • 1 box Lasagne Sheets
  • 1 bag Frozen Chips
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add the mince and brown along with the chopped garlic, some salt, pepper and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Drain off some fat if needed.
  2. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees celsius. Add the pasta sauce and the passata and stir well, heating gently for another 2 minutes.
  3. In an oven proof dish, spoon in half the minced beef mixture. Top with a layer of lasagne sheets, and then half of the white lasagne sauce. Repeat this layering again by adding the remaining minced beef mixture, lasagne sheets and remaining white sauce.
  4. Place in the oven for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, grate the cheese.
  5. Take the lasagne out of the oven and smother with the grated cheese. Sprinkle on some freshly ground pepper and place back in the oven for 25 minutes.
  6. Cook your chips according to instructions in the oven or air fryer, if preferred.

Notes

  • A classic, comforting lasagne layered with rich store-bought red sauce, creamy white sauce and tender pasta sheets, baked until golden and bubbling.

Tips

  • For an extra side, add garlic bread or salad leaves dressed with balsamic dressing.

Swaps and substitutes

  • You can absolutely make your own red sauce from passata, garlic, herbs and onions, and a pinch of sugar, salt and pepper. There are so many ready made sauces however, that are not too expensive.
  • I've chosen a cheddar and mozzarella mix as a topping here. Cheddar for its flavour and mozzarella for its stringy consistency when melted.
